If you are thinking of getting a new pet dog, skip the “dogs for sale” posts. There are a lot of puppies waiting for you at the animal shelter. Dog shelters are becoming more and more crowded with so many abandoned dogs placed under their care. Dogs for adoption are often available in your nearest animal shelter.
A lot of people might have their hesitations on taking an adopted pet. But there is more to adopting a dog than just getting a new pet.
Here are 3 reasons why you should “adopt, don’t shop” and get a from an animal shelter:
Because you’ll save a life
Each year, more than one million dogs for adoption end up being euthanized in the United States because too many pets are coming into shelters and very few people consider adoption instead of shopping for one. When you adopt a pet, you are saving one animal from getting killed.
Because you’ll get a great animal
Although a lot of these dogs were abandoned or traumatized, they are usually the ones who are more loving towards their owner. A lot of these pets have also been house-trained already and are used to living with families. They may have been abandoned due to a move or a divorce.
Because it will cost you less
When adopting a pet, the cost of spaying or neuter and first vaccinations are usually already included in the adoption price. This means you can save up from some of the necessary costs of getting a new pet.
